The Tale of Dandelion and Hoglet
When Kathreen and Mike Burns decided to convert their barn at Low Flanders near Carlisle, they had a vision of the holiday accommodation they wanted to create – luxurious and indulgent, making the most of outdoor as well as indoor space and a great base for exploring the best of what’s on the doorstep.
After months of hard work, perseverance and imagination, Dandelion and Hoglet Cottages were ready for visitors in the summer of 2020.
“The names might sound as if they’re inspired by Beatrix Potter but they’re actually taken from the dandelion clocks in the surrounding fields and the baby hedgehog that sometimes visits our garden.” Kathreen Burns
Making the most of a Cumbrian location
Dandelion and Hoglet Cottages are found down a short lane, off the beaten track and feeling remote and secluded. They’re also just a short drive from the M6 motorway and from Carlisle but you’d never know. Look out of your picture windows in Dandelion or over the garden wall from Hoglet and you’ll see green fields with wildlife, big skies and plenty of peace and quiet.
“Each cottage is designed for two people who want to get away from the day-to-day hustle and bustle and relax together in a beautiful part of Cumbria. We’ve put a lot of effort into the gardens as well as the luxury interiors and our guests so far have loved the attention to detail as well as the welcome.” Mike Burns
Cottages with a difference
Dandelion and Hoglet Cottages have personality as well as luxury. Each bedroom and en-suite shower room is designed for indulgence, there’s a wood burner in the lounge to keep things cosy and the kitchen is equipped for making either a romantic meal or a lazy breakfast. Your time’s your own and these very special Cumbrian cottages are designed to help you relax in your rural retreat.
Outside, the gardens are colourful with traditional cottage garden planting and there’s local sandstone paving and walls for character. The gorgeous hot tubs are covered but also open on one side to the garden so you’ve all the privacy you need.
“We enjoy gardening ourselves and appreciate what it means to be able to relax outdoors in a private space that’s all your own. That’s what we’ve created for Dandelion and Hoglet too.” Kathreen Burns
